# ai adoption gap
after conducting workshops with 300 participants across 100 companies in germany, there is one thing i keep being stunned about, and it is a gap of adoption
just this week i conducted a workshop at a modern, young, fast-growing construction management company. and from the audience of 12 people, several have not even used chatgpt or similar tools at all. some have used them but refused to integrate into their daily lives. not a single person knew what chain of thought is. none of them has ever used agents of any kind for research or coding
while all of those tools are ubiquitous and familiar to the people working in the ai industry, the vast majority of folks in normal jobs all across the economy have no idea. their adoption hovers around zero
it's not that all people in this society are 13.5% familiar with the ai technology. it's just that 13.5% of german enterprises know what ai is and maybe used it a little bit. but probably 1% of those are power users. the penetration rate of this groundbreaking technology is surprisingly slow, especially considering how many people are aware of it
note: can't remember where i got 13.5% from but this is allegedly the percentage of companies in germany using generative AI
